Clint Eastwood is just a silly old man who comes out with films that line up with his values. He glorified a sniper who was a definite bigot, and may very well have been a murderer, if his own stories are to be believed. He romanticized a drug mule, who cavorted with prostitutes, even though he was a very old man. ( Note how age has impacted Clint`s language. He used complex when he meant to use perplex early in this clip. .

Almost all of us know his story, but Clint Eastwood tells it in a manner that is captivating from start to finish, with details that are revelatory. The acting here is terrific all around, with Paul Walter Hauser and Kathy Bates (amazing here) deserving Oscar nominations, but consideration should also be given to Sam Rockwell as Jewell's attorney. Jon Hamm, Olivia Wilde, and Nina Arianda deserve mention, too, for their excellent characterizations. The direction is taut, crisp, and engaging and the story unfolds with wonder and precision. Some national critics are hung up on trying to politicize Eastwood's motives - but this is simply an American story that reveals the worst of our media and government. If it could happen to Richard Jewell, it could happen to you or your child. Kudos all around for this production. Like "Once Upon a Time In Hollywood. Knives Out" and "Judy. three other best movies of 2019) this holds your attention throughout and the movie flies by. Two hours seems like one. Directed by Clint Eastwood, Richard Jewell follows an American security guard, Richard Jewell (Paul Walter Hauser) as he saves thousands of lives from an exploding bomb at the 1996 Olympics, but is vilified by journalists and the press who falsely reported that he was a terrorist. To be honest I wasn't even going to write a review in this. It's been well over a week and I've been so busy with everything that I had no time. I skipped writing a a review for the miniseries Mrs. Fletcher (which is good; B+ and just writing shorter reviews lately. This one will be short again since I don't remember everything super clear. It's not that I didn't like this, but I just haven't had the time. I actually found myself liking this movie a little more than I expected. Watching the trailer I had hardly any interest in seeing this to be honest. Clint Eastwood starred and directed The Mule last year and I think he's a good director and actor. Everyone freaked out when he said he was done acting and basically everyone saw The Mule, at least in my town. I liked it when I saw it but I've grown to have less of an interest in it as time went by. That's what I thought Richard Jewell would be like. Sure, there's the chance that I won't want to rewatch it as much as I visit movies again as frequent as I do, but I liked it more than The Mule. The direction was all there and good from Eastwood. I wouldn't say he did anything spectacular with directing but he never seems to make a bad movie. Where Richard Jewell shines is with Paul Walter Hauser as Richard Jewell. I'm just always surprised with his work. He was in I, Tonya and I loved him, then BlacKkKlansman, followed by the under appreciated movie Late Night, and now this. Hauser has become one of the best actors right now it seems, yet no one really knows about him. This is his best performance and I'd love to see him in more leading roles. The other performance I really liked was Sam Rockwell. He's another actor that's just great with every role he's given. Playing Watson Bryant won't be a role he'll be well known for in the future but I thought he did such a fine job. Kathy Bates just recently got the Golden Globe nomination for best supporting actress for this movie and I love her work. I'm just very surprised she received a nomination. She did very well like always but there isn't a scene that sticks out from other supporting actress this year with great performances. Kathy isn't bad by all means, I just think maybe someone else could've gotten the nomination. Overall really nice acting. The movie follows the same sort of typical biopic hero setup as some others with the tones and conflicts lining up in certain spots. It's a good story. Only a few times did it actually drag just a little. It's over two hours and some of it could've been taken out. The very beginning felt a little awkward to me because it took place a few years before the main story just to show where he worked up from. Maybe they could've taken that bit out and just talked about it in another spot. Those were my only main issues with this movie. I'm very surprised at how much it under performed at the box office, especially for a Clint Eastwood movie. I'd suggest seeing Richard Jewell. It's a good movie with great performances.

This is sad as it gets, a true hero maligned by the media and he died too young, at 44 christ. This movie literally grabbed me and pulled me in. The lead actor was hands down amazing and I hope he gets nominated for an Oscar. I love hearing Adam laughing. Bomb the Fed. No Good Deed Goes Unpunished and this is a Perfect Example. Great movie. I enjoyed this movie a lot! Yes there are some issues with writing in this film, they way this came to be the good guys vs the bad guys didn't appeal much to me and I have doubts about how much of this actually happened as it was portrayed in the movie. However, this was a solid story, superbly acted (acting by Hauser, Bates and Rockwell was the best aspect of the film) well-shot and well-made by Mr Eastwood.

The drama directed by Clint Eastwood (in theaters now) stars Paul Walter Hauser as Richard Jewell, the security guard initially hailed as a hero after he found three pipe bombs at Atlanta's Centennial Olympic Park during a concert for the 1996 Summer Olympics.  His fast actions saved lives in the explosion, which killed one and injured 111. But when Jewell's name leaked out as the prime suspect in the deadly blast, his face and name became famous for all the wrong reasons. Though police never arrested Jewell and ultimately dropped the investigation, and the actual bomber was eventually found, his lawyer and friend Watson Bryant says many people still think Jewell  "had something nefarious to do with the bombing. It's just ignorance. He absolutely did not. The years pass. All you remember is the news avalanche and this idea that this guy had something to do with it. says Bryant, who served as a consultant on the film and is played by Sam Rockwell. The movie, which traces Jewell's journey from hero to suspect to vindication, is billed as "based on a true story. Here's what's fact or fiction in "Richard Jewell. "  Why did Jewell's past spark suspicion? Jewell is depicted as an eager-to-please mailroom clerk in Bryant's law office who reads dry penal codes in his free time.  The movie shows real warts from Jewell's failed attempts at a career in law enforcement. For example, he was let go from a security officer job at Georgia's Piedmont College for his overzealous tactics, which included raiding dorm rooms for student drinking violations.  "If you think that if a cop is overzealous, thats evidence of him being a bomber, well, I sure as hell dont. Bryant says. Gun-loving Jewell, 33, is shown living with his mother Bobi (Kathy Bates) who is recovering from surgery at the time of the bombing.   He seemingly fit the profile of a lone wolf seeking to grab 15 minutes of fame, but he was the antithesis of a bomber. And anyone who knew Richard knew that. says Bryant. How did the hero become the suspect? Jewell spotted the abandoned olive-green backpack containing pipe bombs under a park bench. When it became clear it was a legitimate threat, he helped move 75 to 100 bystanders away. (The scenes were shot in Centennial Park on the 23rd anniversary of the fatal bombing.   Immediately hailed a national hero, Jewell initially reached out to Bryant to help him with the paperwork on a proposed book deal. Scruggs is depicted meeting an FBI agent (a composite character played by Jon Hamm) at a bar and is shown running her hand up his leg. He reveals the identity of the fed's suspect and the two leave the bar together. The portrayal has roiled critics, including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which says Scruggs is inaccurately portrayed as exchanging sex for information. Lawyer Marty Singer sent a letter to Warner Bros. and Eastwood on the news outlet's behalf that says the respected reporter is "reduced to a sex-trading object in the film. The letter demanded the filmmakers issue a "statement publicly acknowledging that some events were imagined for dramatic purposes and artistic license" and add a disclaimer to the movie.
